LABSA students reading

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. — Libertas Academy Boiling Springs (LABSA) has been awarded a $30,000 Summer Reading Camp Community Partnership Grant by the South Carolina Department of Education, a testament to the school’s ongoing commitment to literacy advancement in Spartanburg County. The funding will support LABSA’s upcoming summer program.

Secured through a highly competitive grant process, this award will fund a six-week literacy camp aimed at strengthening core reading skills for elementary students. The camp will run at least four days each week, offering over four hours of structured reading support and engaging, hands-on literacy experiences daily.

“Without this funding, we would not have the resources to offer a dedicated summer reading program. This grant makes it possible to provide a high-quality, engaging summer experience for our 2nd and 3rd grade students,” said Celina Patton, School Director at LABSA.

Highlights of the Summer Reading Camp include:

  • Implementation of proven formative assessments like MAP, STAR, or iReady to track progress;

  • Access to high-quality, leveled reading materials tailored to individual student needs;

  • Transportation support to ensure full participation;

  • Daily interactive literacy activities designed to foster a love of reading.
